Urban spaces are evolving and so are the expectations placed on infrastructure that defines and manages them. Municipalities, architects, and facility managers are looking for solutions that go beyond standard access control and address a specific, growing concern: the threat posed by hostile vehicles in crowded public areas. This is where Fancy Fence comes in with its dedicated HVM gate.

What is an HVM gate and why is it important?

HVM stands for Hostile Vehicle Mitigation: a category of solutions designed specifically to stop unauthorised or dangerous vehicles before they can cause harm. HVM gates are a key element of vehicle impact protection near government buildings, public facilities, plazas, and promenades. Fancy Fence, a Polish company known for its fence security systems focused on access control and entrance management, has developed a reinforced version of its retractable-in-ground system purpose-built for this role: an HVM gate that delivers anti-ram protection while remaining discreetly integrated into the urban environment.

A test that says it all

To prove its effectiveness, the Fancy Fence HVM gate underwent a crash test at the renowned CTS testing centre in Germany. In controlled conditions, a 7.5-tonne truck hit the gate at 50 km/h. The result? The gate not only stopped the vehicle but also pushed it back. The penetration rating of -2.8 metres significantly exceeded international ASTM and IWA standards.

Vehicle impact protection doesn't have to be obvious

What sets the Fancy Fence HVM gate apart is its combination of anti-ram performance and architectural refinement. Unlike bulky bollards or concrete blocks, the reinforced Fancy Fence system disappears below ground level when not activated, nearly invisible until needed. It is an ideal solution for locations where hostile vehicle mitigation must coexist with a high standard of urban design.

Polish technology for global cities

Fancy Fence continues to prove that Polish innovations can lead the way in the field of vehicle impact protection. It is worth noting that the HVM gate is a distinct, reinforced version of the Fancy Fence system, separate from the standard product, which serves as an access control and entrance management solution. While standard access control system gates help organise vehicle entry and define property boundaries, the HVM gate addresses a fundamentally different challenge: protecting people and public spaces against hostile vehicle attacks. If cities are to be safer in the future, they need both: smart access management for everyday use and certified anti-ram protection where the threat level demands it. The HVM gate from Fancy Fence is a step in that direction.
